Prospects in space-based Gamma-Ray Astronomy for Europe

CNR Head Quarter premises (Rome, Italy)

March 18, 2005

Objective
With Cosmic Vision 2020, ESA has started the process to setout the European roadmap for space-based astronomy for the next decades (horizon 2015-2025). The themes for Cosmic Vision 2020 were presented in a preliminary form during a workshop held in Paris in September 2004. In order to assure the continuity of the field of space-based gamma-ray astronomy within the next decades, and to provide input to ESA for the Cosmic Vision 2020 roadmap, we propose to meet during a one-day seminar to discuss possible future mission scenarios in light of the scientific objectives of the community. The declared aim of this seminar is to work towards a scientific road-map of the European gamma-ray community for the horizon 2015-2025. The outcome of this seminar will be presented during the ESLAB 2005 symposium that will be held at ESTEC (Noordwijk, The Netherlands) during April 19-21, 2005 (see www.congrex.nl/05a14).
